California voters exempt rideshare companies from reclassifying drivers

In California, an important victory for the ridesharing industry.

With projections of winning at least 58% of the vote, the approval of Proposition 22 allows ridesharing companies like Uber and Lyft to continue to classify their drivers as contract workers and therefore avoid having to pay full-time benefits like healthcare and unemployment insurance.
