Hurricane Iota made landfall on Nicaragua’s Caribbean coast as a dangerous Category 4 storm this week.

Nicaraguan Vice President Rosario Murillo said on Tuesday that at least six people had died.

Hurricane Iota caused a power outage for about 90,000 homes on Wednesday morning in Nicaragua.

The threat of heavy rains will also bring more flooding and landslides to Central America.

The government of Honduras closed bridges and highways across the country on Tuesday, while placing some 13,000 residents in over 600 shelters.

On Wednesday, the storm weakened  into a tropical depression over El Salvador, but still carried 48 kilometers per hour winds and rain, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in its final advisory on the storm.
