Developing a life-saving vaccine can be a race against time that requires a lot of time and resources. 

Studies carried out by research teams, aiming to end the coronavirus pandemic have shown a number of challenges scientists still face today. Among them, getting a diverse group of volunteers to participate in clinical trials. 

Some health experts argue it's rooted in a deep-rooted stigma based on the historic mistreatment of some minority groups, but others point out socio-economic barriers that still need to be addressed.
