The U.S. reported at least 3,239 new coronavirus deaths and more than 201,674 new infections on Tuesday. The week’s average was nearly 216,000 new cases per day with an average daily death rate of 2,400. This means one person is dying from COVID-19 every 40 seconds in the United States. 

It will likely be several months before the vaccine will be available to most Americans. Curbing the alarming surge of infections will hinge on personal responsibility, doctors say. So far 323,510 people in the U.S. have died from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
