The Dakar rally, an annual off-road endurance event is now underway in Saudi Arabia.  The rally sees amateur and professional drivers and motorcyclists, including nine women competitors, crossing dunes, mud,  grass, and rocks in 12 stages that vary in distance.  

The Dakar rally, which formerly ran from Paris to Dakar, Senegal, moved this year to Saudi Arabia, where women were not legally allowed to drive until 2018.
