Two newly-minted Democratic senators are on their way to Washington, D.C. from the state of Georgia.

It represents a tectonic shift in power. 

The southern state, steeped in conservative politics has turned blue with liberal politicians now leading the way. 

It wasn't a change that happened overnight.
