Balkan town celebrates despite COVID-19 ban

Police in the town of Vevcani in North Macedonia had to intervene and put an end to revelers ignoring COVID-19 restrictions and celebrating the Julian New Year Wednesday. Despite the ban on the event, costumed locals gathered in a town square to celebrate St. Vasilij Day, which locals the town has been doing for 1,400 years.
