A record of more than 535,900 people have died due to the coronavirus pandemic in Latin America and the Caribbean as of Wednesday, January 13.  Brazil has reported more than 205,000 deaths alone, as the entire continent goes through the worst moment of the pandemic so far.

As the coronavirus surges, countries in Latin America are in various stages of vaccine distribution and plans, border restrictions, and closures.  COVID-19 now surpasses coronary heart disease as the top cause of death in Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Panama.
