President Trump's decision to boycott Joe Biden's inauguration is another act of defiance in a presidency defined by breaking conventions.

Trump's participation was unlikely, given his second impeachment, this time for inciting the deadly siege on Congress.

But an incumbent U.S. president handing off to his successor is part of the peaceful transfer of power. And yet Trump isn't the first outgoing president to skip the inauguration.
