People in Atlanta, Georgia celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday, a federal holiday in the U.S., by visiting historical sites. Atlanta houses the Ebenezer First Baptist Church, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. preached, King’s birthplace, and the eternal flame at the tomb of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife, Coretta Scott King.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist minister and social rights activist in the United States in the 1950s and 60s. He was a leader of the American civil rights movement.
He was assassinated April 4, 1968 at 39 years old.
