A “field of flags” has been set up in the National Mall in Washington, D.C. ahead of the inauguration ceremony for U.S. President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris.
The nearly 200,000 American flags represent the American people who can’t attend the inauguration this year due to security concerns and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Late Monday the Presidential Inaugural Committee illuminated the flags, concentrated in 56 pillars representing the 50 U.S. states and territories, for 46 seconds to honor Biden, who is to become the 46th President of the United States.
