The inauguration of U.S. President Biden and Vice President Harris took place on the Capitol steps in Washington, D.C. Wednesday, two weeks after the violent siege at the same spot, ushering in a new era for the United States. 

The event hosted former Presidents Bush, Clinton and Obama, and performances by Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, and Garth Brooks. 

The inaugural poet, 22-year-old Amanda Gorman, recited a poem with the words ’we lay down our arms so we can reach out our arms to one another.”
