Vandals painted a COVID-19 face mask on The Long Man of Wilmington this week. The 235-foot monument carved in chalk is protected by law as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Archeologists date the monument to the medieval period.  Sussex police are searching for the persons responsible for the crime. 

The Long Man of Wilmington is protected by law as a Scheduled Ancient Monument for its historical significance.  Even if it was in good humor, police say damaging the monument is a crime.
