The Journal of the American Medical Association published a study today that found that concussions and head impact exposure were much higher during the college football preseason than during the regular season.

The study also found the most concussions occurred during football practices than at games.

The study found that in five seasons there were 528,684 recorded head impacts in 658 players with 68 players getting a concussion.

Nearly half of the the concussions were during the preseason though it only makes up one-fifth of the football season.

Meanwhile, 72% of concussions and 67% of head impacts took place during practices in both preseason and the regular season.

The study said that prevention can take place without major changes to game play.
