Health workers started administering COVID-19 vaccinations along the Amazon river in Brazil in hopes of containing the spread of the virus.

Amazonas state has been overwhelmed by cases, with hospitals in the capital Manaus at capacity and out of oxygen.

Health officials say Manaus is still seeing exponential increases in COVID-19 cases and deaths.

The Brazilian government is racing to distribute vaccines. Two million people have been vaccinated so far.
