An unexpected star during last month's inauguration of U.S. President Joe Biden was Senator Bernie Sanders from the state of Vermont.

A photograph of the former presidential candidate wearing a casual outfit including a pair of homemade mittens caught the world's attention inspiring countless memes.

That photo has now helped raise close to $2 million for charity.
