As the U.S. passes 27 million COVID-19 cases, health experts warn, the U.S. cannot let its guard down. Even though new infections and hospitalizations are dipping, the new variants are rapidly circulating and Super Bowl gatherings could bring a new wave of cases.

Almost 700 cases of COVID-19 variants from the UK, South Africa and Brazil have been found in the U.S. so far, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Most of those cases are of the UK strain (B.1.1.7).

The UK COVID-19 strain is doubling about every 10 days in the U.S., according to a new study by a group of researchers. They say this variant has an increased transmission rate of 35%-45% and expect it to become the predominant strain in the country by March.

U.S. President Biden is expected to take up the National Football League (NFL) in their offer to use their 30 stadiums as mass vaccination sites. During an interview on CBS, Biden says NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell called him with the offer.
