The number of new COVID-19 cases and deaths reported across the globe are declining, according to the World Health Organization.

Even though many countries are still seeing rising COVID-19 cases and deaths, the WHO says at the global level, there's a glimmer of hope with the pandemic.

New COVID-19 cases reported around the world dropped for a fourth straight week.

While reported deaths also dropped for the second week in a row.

Even the U.S., Brazil, France, Russia and the UK, which are among the countries with the most COVID-19 cases, reported declines.

Countries are hoping COVID-19 vaccines will bring the pandemic under control but in some areas, vaccine rollout has been slow and plagued with issues.

Some countries have already begun their immunization programs but about 130 countries still have yet to give out one vaccine, says the WHO.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also released a new report showing the benefits of improved mask wearing.

Double masking and/or knotting the ear loops for surgical masks to create a tighter fit, can boost COVID-19 protection.
