A historic cold snap brought the coldest air the United States has seen in decades and has dumped snow and ice all the way from Texas to parts of the deep south.  At least 40 states are under various winter advisories.  Extremely cold temperatures from minus 5 to 3 degrees Fahrenheit are expected through Tuesday in Texas. 

Almost 3.9 million people are without power Tuesday in the state, after a grid failure due to the weather.  

A deadly tornado tore through Brunswick County, North Carolina Tuesday, leaving multiple people dead and others injured as the ferocious weather patterns take their toll across the nation.
