People in El Salvador are headed to the polls on Sunday to vote in local and legislative elections that experts say could change the country's political landscape.

President Nayib Bukele entered office in 2019, beating established political parties.

But with the opposition controlling congress and other key positions, Bukele has said the Legislative Assembly has been an obstacle toward managing the country.
