The U.S. state of Mississippi will open COVID-19 vaccinations to everyone in the state starting Tuesday. Behind Alaska, Mississippi is the second state to open vaccinations to all. President Biden has called on all states to do so by May 1st.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has found some of their COVID-19 guidance under the Trump administration was not unbiased and grounded in science. President Biden ordered CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky to review the guidance because of concerns from earlier in the pandemic.
Italy is under a new COVID-19 lockdown in efforts to contain a third wave of new infections. Germany and France are also seeing signs of another wave. Hospitalizations are rising across Europe and countries are mobilizing resources to help fight the resurgence.
The European Medicines Agency says cases of blood clots in patients who received the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine is not higher than normal but they will continue to investigate reports. As several European countries suspend use of the vaccine, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says they will continue to use the vaccine. Trudeau says none of the doses that have arrived in Canada are from the batch under investigation in Europe.
