California's homelessness crisis amid COVID pandemic

Nearly five people are dying on the streets of Los Angeles every day from a variety of causes including COVID-19. 

The death rate among the homeless population of LA has seen a 74 percent increase in just over a year. 

And this comes as charity and rights groups are blaming the city for failing to take advantage of federal funding to keep the homeless in hotel rooms to contain the pandemic.
