Brazil has reached another bleak milestone: 300,000 Covid-19 related deaths after hitting an alarming single-day record of 3,251 deaths on Tuesday.
The country remains second only to the U.S. in the total number of fatalities and cases but is now reporting more daily fatalities than any other country in the world.
While Brazil’s president, Jair Bolsonaro, continues to oppose lockdowns and most other mitigation measures, governors and mayors throughout the country are taking matters into their own hands to slow infections and bring relief to a healthcare system that is on the verge of collapse.
