Central American migrants share the struggle of entering the U.S.

Record numbers of migrants, including unaccompanied minors, are reaching the U.S./Mexico border and are now in U.S. Customs and Border Protection custody.

Many are seeking asylum from countries in Central America. It’s led to overcrowding at border patrol stations and processing sites. 

On Wednesday, U.S. President Joe Biden announced Vice President Kamala Harris will lead the effort to control the migrant flow and strengthen ties with Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

While thousands of migrants are in U.S. CBP custody, many are still in Mexico hoping they’ll be granted entry into the U.S..
