In his first news conference since taking office, U.S. President Joe Biden stood by his approach toward the surge of immigrants at the U.S./Mexico border.

"I make no apologies for ending programs that did not exist before Trump became president that have an incredibly negative impact on the law, international law, as well as on human dignity."

As U.S. federal facilities at the border face overcrowding, Biden said the government is working to open new facilities to house these migrants.

Most of them being unaccompanied minors.

He blames the Trump administration for dismantling the U.S. asylum system, which helped fuel what some are calling a crisis on the southern border.
