Americans seek compensation for failed COVID-19 treatments

In the early days of the pandemic, healthcare providers knew little about how best to treat COVID-19 patients. 

Some were given hydroxychloroquine, a drug which was later found to increase the risk of heart attack. 

For families seeking financial compensation for the death or injury of a loved one, there is little recourse. 

In a declared pandemic, healthcare providers and drug companies are shielded from most lawsuits. 

But there is a little-known government program that can provide compensation.
