Police officers are confiscating whips on Good Friday in the streets of Manila in the Philippines, as some Catholic devotees defy a government coronavirus ban so they can publicly flagellate themselves.  

The religious ritual is performed by these Catholic devotees as a means of self-atonement during the Christian Holy Week.
