International Monetary Fund expects stronger economic recovery but challenges remain

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is expecting stronger economic recovery this year, according to a new forecast released by the organization on Tuesday.

The IMF expects the world economy to grow by 6% in 2021, compared to their previous forecast of 5.5% earlier in the year.

But even with the new forecast, the IMF warns there are still more challenges ahead since nations and communities are administering COVID-19 vaccines at different rates.

CGTN's Yin Hue spoke with IMF chief economist Gita Gopinath. She explains what makes the COVID-19 pandemic unique in the world economy.
