According to the IMF's 2021 World Economic Outlook, the global economic recession amid the COVID-19 pandemic is expected to push an estimated 95 million people into extreme poverty worldwide. As the world is facing challenges in maintaining gains in poverty reduction, Zhang Tao, IMF Deputy Managing Director, highlights three key policies to help tackle this issue.  

By the end of 2020, China had lifted nearly 100 million people in rural areas out of poverty and has eliminated absolute poverty nationwide. Zhang explains how China's success in poverty alleviation and its strong economic growth have contributed to the global efforts in poverty reduction. 

Zhang also pointed out that 2021 is a critical year for climate and each country's macroeconomic policies should be upgraded to align with their climate actions. China is committed to achieving carbon emissions peak levels by 2030, and carbon neutrality by 2060. Hear what he has to say about China's efforts in fighting climate change.
