On April 15th, 2019, a massive blaze razed the iconic Parisian cathedral. It took 400 firefighters and 14 hours to control the flames.

Now the work is to rebuild the cathedral.

French President Emmanuel Macron set a deadline to reopen Notre Dame by 2024. This Thursday, he went to observe the work. The first phase of the project faced roadblocks.

Workers needed to remove 200 tons of twisted metal after the fire melted 40,000 pieces of scaffolding.

Worries of lead contamination and the pandemic also slowed the restoration.

For now, money is not an issue: 834 million euros were donated by billionaires and catholic families around the world.

The Notre Dame cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage site and used to receive 13 million visitors every year.
