After all the heated rhetoric of last month's U.S.-China talks, the one key agreement the reestablishment of direct talks between Washington and Beijing on climate change. 

While Washington and Beijing may have many differences, the biggest threat to mankind and the planet's future is one area they can and have cooperated on.

President Xi and then President Obama’s September 2015 deal on Climate Change in Beijing paved the way for the historic Paris climate accord three months later.

Key to that deal was then U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, now the UN special presidential envoy for Climate, and Xie Zhenhua, China’s then climate envoy who has recently resumed the post.

The two will drive the Shanghai talks and they have a reportedly strong personal relationship.

Kerry is visiting China April 14-17 to meet with Xie on climate change.
