It only flew for 39 seconds. but NASA’s Mars helicopter made history as the first vehicle to fly on another planet.

On Sunday, the four-pound mini-helicopter Ingenuity rose 10 feet above the terrain of Mars.

Back home the Mars team cheered its clean landing.

The test flight took place 117 years after the Wright Brothers flew the first plane on Earth.

The $85 million project took six years to develop.

The Ingenuity is only 19 inches tall and about the size of a tissue box.

There are five more flights planned.

NASA named the airfield where Ingenuity took off after its ancestor: Wright Brothers Field.
