Another record day of coronavirus deaths in India. The country reported nearly one million new COVID-19 cases in three days, with nearly 3,300 deaths on Wednesday.
With oxygen tanks and supplies are in short supply, many patients have turned to the black market.
A growing number of countries, including China, Russia and the U.S., and international organizations like the WHO, have promised India help.
China is also assisting countries in Latin America. A batch of 371,200 doses of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Argentina from China on April 26.
Meanwhile, 43 percent of adults in the U.S. have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 29 percent are fully vaccinated.
Drug maker Pfizer says its new pill to treat COVID-19 at the first sign of symptoms could be ready by the end of 2021.
“Tackling the COVID-19 pandemic requires both prevention via vaccine and targeted treatment for those who contract the virus,” Mikael Dolsten, Pfizer’s chief scientific officer said in a press release.
Although, the U.S. is reporting a recent downward trend of hospitalizations, more migrants are tested positive after they crossed the border from Latin America.
The U.S. Border Patrol says the agency is not testing migrants for COVID-19 at the border. Many test positive later in shelters.
In Miami, a private school said it won’t hire teachers who received COVID-19 vaccinations.
“It was a consensus from our advisors that until this topic is investigated more thoroughly, it is in the best interests of the children to protect them from the unknown implications of being in close proximity for the entire day with a teacher who has very recently taken the COVID-19 injection, ” Centner Academy said in a letter to parents.
