Chileans are heading to the polls to vote for governors, mayors, councillors and constitutional assembly members.

The elected members of the Constitutional Convention will draft a new constitution, which should be submitted to a referendum in 2022.

For the first time, this election will include gender parity and 17 reserved seats for Indigenous people.

Election experts fear there will be a low voter turnout because of the pandemic and little information has been given to the public about the election process.
