What happened to the flu season in the U.S.?

In a normal year, tens of thousands of Americans die of the flu. 

The 2020-21 flu season just ended with roughly 600 deaths in the U.S. 

Regular colds also fell dramatically this year. 

The data mirrors data from around the world. A variety of factors are at play.
