At least 15 are dead and thousands are displaced after Mount Nyiragongo erupted in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The eruption stopped short of the city of Goma but hit 17 villages along the way.
Between 3,000 and 5,000 people fled into Rwanda over the weekend, according to the International Federation of Red Cross.
Some later returned to the DRC.
At some points, the lava reached three stories high, Reuters reports.
Mount Nyiragongo is one of the world's most active and dangerous volcanoes.
