China successfully launches new meteorological satellite

A long March 3B carrier rocket has just lifted off the Fengyun 4B satellite into its designated orbit on 00:17 am June 3 local time from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan province.

This is China’s first operational satellite of a new generation of meteorological satellites in geostationary orbit.It will work together with the network of Fengyun 4A satellite in orbit to further strengthen the observation and response capacity of small- and medium-scale disaster events and provide information security services for meteorological, agricultural, aviation, marine, water conservancy, and environmental protection.

The satellite’s ground application system was built and is operated by the China Meteorological Administration.
