After 11 days of Israeli airstrikes which killed 256 Palestinians, including 66 children, many in Gaza are digging out their lives from the rubble of their former homes.

Israel has been accused of targeting civilians and residential properties in Gaza in response to Hamas rockets fired into Israel which killed 13 Israelis, including two children.

Israel's attacks completely destroyed 1,000 residential homes and partially destroyed at least 15,800 others. Tens of thousands of Palestinians are sheltering in UN-run schools or near the rubble of their former homes.

Israel's siege of Gaza has halted the entry of much-needed construction materials, and the cost for reconstruction is unknown, although the UN says nearly $100 million is needed for emergency services for the next three months alone.
