China's annual national college entrance examination, known as the gaokao, concluded on Tuesday, with a record 10.8 million taking the test.
The gaokao is required to get into any college or university in China. The exam takes nine hours over 2-3 days and questions and vary from province to province.
All students must take the standard Chinese language test and the math test and they can choose from six languages for the foreign language test, but most choose English.
Students also have to choose one of two concentrations: Social Sciences and Natural Sciences. Those who select social sciences are tested further in history, political science, and geography. Those who choose natural sciences get tested in physics, chemistry, and biology.
Students spend months and years studying for this all-important exam.
