Colombia’s national strike marked its sixth consecutive week of protests on Thursday. The massive demonstrations began in late April against a controversial tax reform measure. They grew into anti-government protests voicing concerns over a wide range of social and economic inequities and police brutality.

The Organization of American States sent officials to Colombia where they have been investigating reports of human rights abuses. The Colombian government reports 21 deaths – many of whom died in clashes with security forces. Protest groups say dozens more were killed.
