A Boeing 737-200 cargo plane with two pilots on board landed in the Pacific Ocean Friday.
Shortly after takeoff at 1:42 a.m., a pilot reported having engine problems.
The plane began flying back towards Honolulu.
Four minutes later, a pilot reported a second problem with the other engine.
They were then forced to land in the water about 2-4 miles from land.
The U.S. Coast Guard was able to rescue both pilots.
One was airlifted to a trauma center and the other was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
The plane is an older generation of the 737 MAX.
The 737 MAX was cleared by regulators to fly last year after it was grounded for 20 months following two deadly accidents that killed hundreds.
