Lebanon is headed to a "social explosion" as the country's economic and financial crises deepens, said Caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab.

Diab has appealed to other countries for aid to prevent the demise of the nation.

The country has been promised billions in international aid, but only if it instituted a reform plan to combat corruption.

But due to disagreements among politicians, a plan has never been established.

Diab said that withholding this aid threatens the lives of the Lebanese people.

"Are the Lebanese people supposed to die at hospital’s doors on the way to holding the corrupt accountable?” Diab said.

Lebanon has faced decades of corruption and mismanagement.

Inflation and unemployment have led many young professionals to leave the country.

The Lebanese pound has lost nearly 95 percent of its value.

Those who were once middle class are now facing poverty and 77 percent of homes don't have enough food, the UN said.

A shortage of foreign currency has also led to a scarcity of fuel, medicine and basic goods.

Many line up for hours for gas and people and institutions face hours of power outages.
