On Saturday, July 10, Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Maracanã Stadium will open its doors for the final of the Copa America, the world’s oldest football tournament.
Brazil and Argentina will face off, but with the pandemic forcing matches to be held without spectators and no tourists in town, the championship has been mostly snubbed by Brazilian fans.
But tournament officials hope that the final, a historic duel between Brazil and Argentina, will generate some enthusiasm. Lucrecia Franco, in Rio de Janeiro, reports.
