Some of the former Colombian servicemen arrested in connection with the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse received U.S. military training, according to the Pentagon.
The Pentagon has not identified how many of those arrested were trained or what that training involved.
Before the attack, key participants in the assassination discussed for months how to rebuild Haiti after Moise, according to Haitian police, as reported in the New York Times.
Officials say Haitian-American Christian Emmanuel Sanon, a pastor and doctor, conspired to take over after Moïse's death but they have not explained how he planned to do so.
Sanon has not held a position in the government and he filed for bankruptcy in 2013.
As police continue to investigate the assassination, the head of security at Haiti's presidential residence is in custody.
