With one week to go before the Summer Olympics begin in Tokyo, the president of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, arrived in Japan and stated that the Games would be safe, and  “that we do not bring any risk to the Japanese people,” amid concern that the Olympics will spread COVID-19.  

Tokyo is under a state of emergency as it prepares to host the postponed 2020 Olympic Games safely, isolating athletes from around the globe, barring spectators from most events, and creating a ‘bubble’ to separate the public from the international visitors.
