Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah on Friday.
Wang said Kuwait was the first Gulf Arab country to establish diplomatic relations with China. Over the past 50 years, China and Kuwait have always firmly supported each other on issues involving their core interests.
China gives firm support to Kuwait's efforts to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and stability, and is ready to work with Kuwait to further strengthen bilateral ties, he added.
Wang said that China will continue to provide support to Kuwait in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and is willing to align the Belt and Road Initiative with Kuwait's National Vision 2035 to build a strategic partnership, and continuously explore cooperation in new areas including information technology, artificial intelligence, and cyber security.
Kuwait's Foreign Minister said that he hoped the two countries will carry out a plan to strengthen trade and investment cooperation over the next five years and inject new vitality into the development of bilateral relations.
He also expressed gratitude to China for providing strong support in their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. He hoped that the two countries can strengthen cooperation in the medical and health industries and deepen cooperation in the fields of food security, education, information technology, artificial intelligence, and cyber security. He also appreciates China's efforts in mediating differences among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
He said that Kuwait would make active efforts to restart free trade negotiations between the GCC and China. Kuwait would also actively participate in the establishment of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum and strengthen dialogue and cooperation with China on African and Asian affairs.
