This triptych oil painting was created by Chinese artists Wang Chaoxiang, Yang Bingli and Cheng Jianli in 2018.

It depicts Chinese soldiers patrolling the Chinese-Mongolian border in harsh weather.

China’s border defense troops were established in 1949 when the People’s Republic of China was founded.

China shares a border with 14 countries. That makes the job of Chinese soldiers harder and more complicated.

Some soldiers are positioned in jungles, and some patrol in the mountains where temperatures can go as low as -40 Celsius.

Apart from the tough natural conditions, the soldiers are far away from home and families all year round.

The Chinese-Mongolian border stretches around 4,000 kilometers. Soldiers usually patrol tens of kilometers a day.

They may also face extreme disasters such as flash floods and blizzards on their patrols.

Recent developments in China have improved living conditions for border troops.

More high-tech equipment has been used for day and night border monitoring.

China’s border troops have played a significant role in guarding the country's sovereignty and security.
