02:00

This sculpture, “Pioneering Bull” was created by Chinese sculptor, Pan He, in 1983.

It located in Shenzhen Special Economic Zone in Guangdong province, Southern China.

The sculpture captures the zone's pioneering spirit, diligence, dedication and hard work - qualities associated with Shenzhen.

Weighing four tons, standing two meters high, and stretching 5.6 meters in length, Pioneering Bull has attracted widespread attention.

In 1978, the Party made the historic decision to focus on economic development.

It approved initiating the reform and opening-up policy at the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee.

In 1980, Shenzhen along with Xiamen in Fujian Province, Zhuhai and Shantou in Guangdong Province became the country’s first special economic zones.

This privileged status meant these zones could open their economies to foreign trade and investment.

The Party's reform and opening up policy transformed Shenzhen from a small fishing village into a modern metropolis.

The city's permanent resident population surged to more than 13.43 million at the end of 2019, compared to around 30,000 four decades ago.

Between 1979 and 2020, Shenzhen’s GDP rose from 197 million yuan (~$30 million) to 2.77 trillion yuan (~$427 billion).
