This oil painting, titled "Good Night", was created by Chinese artist Liu Yuyi.

It depicts the evening gala held at the Huairen Hall inside the Zhongnanhai leadership compound in Beijing in 1950.

Chairman Mao Zedong, other key leaders of the PRC and representatives of China's ethnic minorities and patriotic figures from different walks of life gathered to celebrate the first anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

Those invited to the event all contributed to the birth of the PRC on October 1, 1949.

The People's Liberation War in China between the CPC and the KMT was coming to an end in 1948, with the CPC forces winning decisive victories on various battlefields.

To prepare for the founding of New China, the CPC Central Committee issued a call on April 30, 1948, proposing the convening of a new political consultative conference to set up a democratic coalition government.

This received an immediate appreciative response across the country.

On September 21, 1949, 662 representatives from all walks of life gathered in Beijing to attend the first Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

The session adopted the Common Program of the CPPCC, elected key leaders of the Central People's Government and the first National Committee of the CPPCC.

It also decided to make Beijing the capital of the PRC and designate the five-star red flag as the national flag and declare the song of "March of the Volunteers" as the national anthem.

As China's top advisory body, the CPPCC promotes unity and cooperation among the various ethnic groups and democratic parties in China and plays a vital role in the country's development in all aspects.
