First "murder hornet" spotted on US, Canada border
CGTN

Watch out -- the so-called "murder hornets" are back. One of the Asian Giant Hornets has been spotted in Washington State, near the border with Canada. It's the first confirmed sighting in the U.S. this year.

They don't usually attack people or pets, but when they do, their venom is more toxic than regular hornets and each one can sting multiple times.

The main danger from the hornets is the threat they pose to honey bees. They earned their nickname because they kill honeybees by decapitating them. A few of them can destroy a honey bee hive in only a few hours, interfering with the bees' vital work of pollinating crops.

Agriculture officials say "if it becomes established, this hornet will have negative impacts on the environment, economy, and public health."
